Who's BURT?

Whether you are a printer or a designer, BURT should become one of the resources in your print arsenal.  BURT, which stands for Best Uncoated Results Toolkit and is produced by Domtar, is a keeper.  Part myth buster and part resource guide, BURT offers simple but useful tips for creating an exceptional digital product.

I was looking over my most recent copy of BURT, the digital edition, and found a lot of really good tips for printing and designing for digital print. For example, what are the three questions you should be asking when deciding to print digitally?  Want to max out the number of pieces printed on a sheet - consider adjusting the size of your piece down a fraction. Did you know digital text weight runs grain long, while digital cover stock runs grain short - if you're designing a piece with a fold make sure to get a dummy first to avoid any missteps.

The piece is well laid out, with great pointers peppered throughout it.  It's printed on Cougar Digital Color Copy 80#C and 70#T in the super smooth finish, printed on the iGen4 - and serves as an excellent print sample.

Have any interns working with you this summer? This series is a great learning tool. You can request your copy of BURT digital edition here, and anyone utilizing digital printing will be so glad they did.
